A self-taught artist, Matthias creates works of art by drawing on football shirts. It's a passion that has brought him to Roazhon Park.

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Matthias Hamzaoui, I'm 25 years old and I've been living in Rennes for several months. I've been a shirt designer for 2 years now. I now make a living from my passion and I was very proud to design a shirt for Stade Rennais. As a fan of football and design, it's wonderful to be able to combine the two. I'm living a childhood dream.

How did your adventure begin?

I started painting on denim jackets 3-4 years ago. It's something that's done all over the world. I thought I could do it on any surface and I came up with the idea of jerseys. I'm a football fan and 90% of my work is now on shirts. I now work with players, brands and clubs, even though I've never taken a single drawing course.

What inspired you to design the Stade Rennais F.C. shirt?

I made my first shirt with a portrait of Benjamin Bourigeaud following a request from a private individual. I then wanted to make a shirt for the club to crown this magnificent season. After polling Stade Rennais fans on Twitter to find out who the players were, I started painting. It took me 4 days to finish at Roahzon Park. It's crazy to have been able to be in the middle of this pitch, I feel really privileged. It was a great experience and I'd like to extend my warmest thanks to Stade Rennais.

The shirt will be on display at the Galerie des Légendes from the start of next season.
