Lille was indeed an encouraging defeat. A week later, the Rouge et Noir recorded a crushing victory over Saint-Étienne in Jorge Sampaoli's first game at Roazhon Park. Dominant until Mathieu Cafaro was sent off in the 39th minute, Rennes turned their numerical superiority into a serious advantage. Good for morale!
