Recruited as much for his footballing skills as for his fighting spirit, Alidu Seidu strengthened Rennes' rearguard during the winter mercato fourteen months ago. Like his time at Clermont, the Ghanaian international's contribution on the pitch and his attitude quickly made him a player you could count on.
Used at right-back, left-back or in the centre of defence, his versatility and leadership are assets. Unfortunately, after 26 games with the Rouge et Noir, he suffered a stroke of bad luck in Lille on 24 November, when the cruciate ligaments in his left knee were damaged.
The injury certainly put a stop to his fine performances after a convincing start to the season - hailed in particular by the fans, who named him player of the month for September and October - but it did not dampen his jovial, optimistic spirit for long. His smile continues to shine in the corridors of the training centre when he has to face the re-education phase, with the determination to always be present alongside the group. ‘I'm continuing to work hard every day to prepare for my return and get back to my pre-injury level,’ says Alidu.

Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"We are particularly delighted to see Alidu extend his contract. His characteristic smile is not just a facade; Alidu brings a real, wonderful energy to the club. On the pitch, he also knows how to take responsibility. He's a leader who's made a name for himself since his arrival. We're looking forward to seeing him out on the pitch again, and he'll be the first to do so.
Frederic Massara, Stade Rennais F.C. Sports Director:
"Alidu is a very reliable and strong player, and we miss him a lot out on the pitch. He's a strong defender with great qualities and an exceptional state of mind. Seeing him extend his contract makes us very happy, because he will continue to make a huge contribution to Stade Rennais F.C. He is very close to the team despite his injury, and he brings strength, courage and a smile to the team. We can say that Alidu is the kind of player that every coach would like to have in his team. So it's great that he's extending his contract.
Alidu Seidu:
"It's a huge honour to have extended my contract and to continue this wonderful adventure. I'm very happy and this extension means a lot to me. The most important thing for me was to continue at Stade Rennais, that's what I wanted. I'm very happy here, at a great club with fantastic supporters. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to my extension.
