Recruited to bolster the Red and Black's attacking options, Kazeem Olaigbe has known more than Belgian football in his young career. Trained at Anderlecht, the Brussels-born player continued his education with Southampton's U18 and U21 teams before discovering the Scottish Premier League for six months with Ross County FC at the age of 19, before spending the rest of the season in English football with Harrogate Town.
He returned to his Belgian roots in the summer of 2023 with Cercle Bruges KSV. The ‘Imp’ adapted quickly, making 60 appearances in two seasons and scoring 13 times.
Kazeem Olaigbe is being courted by other European clubs, but has given his preference to Rennes for the rest of his career.
Welcom Kazeem !
Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chair and Managing Director Stade Rennais F.C. :
« In addition to its reputation in terms of training, Stade Rennais has in the past demonstrated its expertise in supporting and developing foreign talent. Kazeem is one of Belgian football's brightest prospects. For a Francophone, Ligue 1 is a league in which you can blossom perfectly, and I think that Stade Rennais is the right place for him to continue his development. »
Frederic Massara, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C. :
« Kazeem has some very interesting qualities: he's quick, technical and hard-hitting. He's a player who's particularly comfortable on the left side of the attack, and that's an area where he'll have the opportunity to show himself. As a Belgian U-21 international, he still has a great deal of potential to develop and express. He was a much-watched player, and we're delighted to be able to sign him. »
Kazeem Olaigbe :
« I'm very proud to be joining a renowned French club, and it's another important step. But all I want to do is get out on the pitch, get to know my new colleagues in the dressing room, and show the fans what I'm made of. The number of young players who have made the breakthrough at Rennes is impressive, and that just goes to show the quality of the work done at the club. I want to prove that I can play at the same level. I'd describe myself as a one-on-one player. I hope to go down in history with Stade Rennais and make my family proud. »
