Thierry Henry's side moved a step closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games against Guinea, but not without difficulty. After several serious scares in their own penalty area, Les Bleuets took the lead through Kiliann Sildillia with 15 minutes to go. As against the USA, Adrien Truffert was in the starting line-up from the outset and played a flawless game. Arnaud Kalimuendo and Désiré Doué came on at the end of the match. In Group A, the Tricolores have six points, the United States and New Zealand three, and Guinea zero.

In the opposite camp, Rennes prospect Amadou Diallo played the entire match. Kaba Diawara's team, who played for Stade Rennais, will have to beat the USA if they are to have any hope of qualifying.

In Group D, Wilson Samaké's Mali, once again withdrawn for this match, lost 1-0 to Japan after drawing with Israel three days ago. The Eagles face Paraguay in the final group game.
