After two seasons in Naples, the Molde-trained player has signed for Stade Rennais F.C. in Brittany. Soon to be 25, Leo Østigård has already had several experiences. Trained at Molde FK, he made his professional debut by playing 12 Eliteserien matches during the 2017-2018 season: one with his training club during the first half of the season, 11 with Viking FK where he was loaned out in March 2018. In the summer of 2018, he signed for Brighton & Hove Albion, who then loaned him out to FC St. Pauli, Coventry City, Stoke City and Genoa CFC.
A succession of experiences that ultimately helped him gain confidence and demonstrate his ability to adapt to new dressing rooms. In July 2022, Napoli offered him the chance to continue his progress in Serie A. After a first season of discovery (11 games played) in the year of the title for ‘I Partenopei’, Leo Østigård established himself the following season in Rudi Garcia's and then Walter Mazzarri's XI.
Known for his commitment and fighting spirit, he made several appearances in the Champions League against Glasgow Rangers, Liverpool, AC Milan and Real Madrid, where he scored a number of goals. Rough in duels, with a remarkable ability to relax and a sense of timing to dominate the air, the Norwegian defender is also a threat from attacking kicks.
A player of great character, Leo Østigård arrived at Rennes on Monday with great enthusiasm. « I've discovered a beautiful stadium and I'm a happy man today. I can't wait to start the season. I spent two great years at Napoli, but I felt it was time for a change so that I could continue to get as much playing time as I wanted. I had a very good feeling with the Rennes managers, and I want to take my share of responsibility in this sporting project. I'm here to show my sporting and human qualities, help the group and support the youngsters. It's a new league, a new country, everything will be new for me, but I'm ready for this new challenge. » Leadership that's just waiting to be expressed in the Rouge et Noir!
Welcome Leo !
