On loan from Brest to Marseille this season, the central defender will be returning to the Breton capital, a land he has known very well. Having played for Val-d'Argenteuil and RFC Argenteuil, clubs in his hometown, Lilian Brassier joined the Stade Rennais F.C. academy in 2013, where he honed his skills until signing his first professional contract in June 2019.
He then left to gain experience with Valenciennes FC and established himself as one of the best in his position in L2. On his return to the banks of the Vilaine, he was hampered by the competition, but this time he headed west, signing for Stade Brestois 29 on a new loan deal with an option to buy. After a season in which he played 11 games, he made a lasting impression in Finistère and won the confidence of his team-mates and managers, culminating in an exceptional 2023-2024 season for the ‘Ty-Zefs’, synonymous with a historic qualification for the Champions League. With SB29, he took his total number of games to 117 (5 goals and 1 assist), an accomplished career.
His profile attracted interest from a number of clubs, notably in England and the Bundesliga, but it was OM who came out on top. The Phocéens reached an agreement with Brest on a loan deal and the central defender moved to the Cannebière. A regular starter (12 games), Lilian Brassier will play for Rennes for the rest of the season. In signing for SRFC, Lilian Brassier will be reunited with a number of familiar faces at the club.
Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chair and Managing Director Stade Rennais F.C. :
« As well as the sporting qualities for which he is renowned, Lilian is part of the Rouge et Noir identity. It's a great reward for our coaches to see him pull on the Stade Rennais F.C. jersey again, with the aim of making him a permanent fixture in defence. Our discussions were very easy, because he's an intelligent lad who wants to establish himself as a key member of the squad. »
Frederic Massara, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C. :
« We're delighted to welcome one of our own. Lilian trained here before going on to become an established player. The staff are counting on him to bring his physical qualities, his taste for duels and his determination. His knowledge of the league and the environment is obviously something we like. Welcome Lilian! »
Lilian Brassier :
« Coming back to Rennes makes a lot of sense. I can't wait to get down to work with my team-mates and move forward. Playing at Roazhon Park is simply magnificent. Stade Rennais F.C. are going through some complicated times, but we mustn't forget that this is a big club whose aim is to play in the top 6. I can't wait to fight for the Rouge et Noir. »
